Associated Press Journalist visits CAU

You must find a way or make one, entertainment writer for the Associated Press stated.

“The base of all mediums is writing,” Jonathan Landrum Jr. said. On Sept. 27 the Clark Atlanta University alumnus was a guest speaker for many students within the mass media arts department at Clark Atlanta University.

Landrum has been highlighted for his outstanding achievements and promoted to become an Entertainment Writer for the Associated Press in the city of Los Angeles.

“I am always trying to stay very well-rounded with subjects in entertainment,” Landrum stated. Landrum’s topic focused on giving students tips on how to be successful in media. He shared many moments that he had at CAU and how he overcame the ups and downs of college.

He encouraged students to ask questions and ask for advice so that he could be as helpful as possible.  Landrum discussed being an African-American in media from code-switching, networking, pitching, and knowing how to stay up to date with all things news.

“A lot of times you have to look to your left and look to your right because those are the people you may be working with later down the line,” Landrum said.

He encourages students to take advantage of resources while they are available.

Landrum was a student-athlete at Clark Atlanta University for three years and shared his experience of playing football while wanting to further his career. MORE

“Finding a way is doing the research. Making it, is putting that step forward and taking action,” Landrum said. From the football field at Clark Atlanta University to the Associated Press, Landrum has inspired students to live by the institution’s motto “Find A Way or Make One” and work hard to get where they want to be.
