The 11th annual Spirit of Greatness Gala

On Mar. 23, Clark Atlanta University (CAU) and Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association (CAUAA) hosted its 11th annual Spirit of Greatness Gala at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hotel in downtown Atlanta led by Dr. Rashad Richey as Master of Ceremony.

Last year’s Spirit of Greatness Gala raised over $1.5 million to reach the educational advancement needs for CAU students’ ability to continue their education without financial burden.

“The Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association, Inc. takes pride in honoring our distinguished alumni and nation’s trailblazers each year while raising funds to support the next generation of leaders who are currently matriculating through CAU,” President of CAUAA Devin White said.

The ballroom was filled with over 500 CAU students, alumni pioneers and trailblazing leaders of the community all in support of the university’s scholarship fund and to congratulate the 2019 honorees.

CAU Pathways to Excellence Award were presented to Bryan-Michael Cox – CAU, American Record Producer and Songwriter, Juanita M. Eber – Clark College ’51, Former Director of Alumni Affairs, Dr. Om P. Puri, Non-Alum, Carl Seldon – Clark College ’61, Maurice Slaughter – Atlanta University ’85 and Brenda W. Walker – Clark College ’75 who received the Dr. Thomas W. Cole Jr. Legacy Award.

Interim President, Lucille H. Maugé shared, “I am hoping that our students will get an opportunity to talk to the graduates of the University and really talk with them about their careers and how their experience at Clark Atlanta University helped them with their careers. Those opportunities are invaluable and the advice that you can receive from them is more than worth coming to the gala.”

The black-tie gala included for the first time, student testimonials from Business Marketing major, Jaida Franklin and Mass Media Arts major, Trishunda Mooney who shared their personal appreciation of how monies raised through the Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association Scholarship has assisted them throughout their matriculation at CAU.

“Whether you gave a financial seed, I say thank you. Giving of your time to visit class sessions on campus to share your knowledge and wisdom, I say thank you. Wearing your CAU paraphernalia out and about, helping youngs minds to seal their decision on choosing the illustrious Clark Atlanta University, I say thank you,” Mooney said.

The evening was planned to entertain, educate and continue efforts of raising funds solely for the progression of Clark Atlanta University with the students in mind.  As guest were treated to entertainment by CAU’s very own Jazz Orchestra and the CAU Philharmonic Society over dinner and conversation, students were encouraged to get to know the alumni they were sitting with at the various sponsored tables.

Some of this year’s sponsors included companies like the Coca-Cola Company, Cox Enterprises, Trustee Al and Cheri Reid, Georgia Power, the Andrew Young Foundation and Mrs. Billye Suber Aaron.
